After the heroics of Richa Ghosh, RCB defeated Gujarat Giants by six wickets

Richa Ghosh led RCB to the greatest successful run-chase in Women’s Premier League history with an undefeated 64 off 27 balls. Ash Gardner’s performance was in vain.

On Friday, February 14, Royal Challengers Bengaluru women made history by defeating Gujarat Giants women by an unforgettable six wickets in the opening match of the WPL 2025.

RCB executed the most successful run chase in WPL history at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. In just 18.3 overs, RCB managed to chase down the 202-run total thanks to a brilliant six from Richa Ghosh. She reached her fifty in a mere twenty-three balls.

Seven fours and four sixes let her reach 64 runs in just 27 balls, keeping her undefeated. The 21-year-old finished the tournament opener as the leading run scorer for RCB.The defending WPL winners, RCB, won the trophy last season after defeating the Delhi Capitals ladies in the championship match. They have gotten off to the finest start in their title defense. They broke the record for the highest run chase held by the Mumbai Indians.

Ash Gardner, the captain of GG, cheaply dismissed Smriti Mandhana (9) and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (9) as RCB dropped two wickets quickly while chasing the score.

With an incredible 86-run combination with Raghvi Bisht, Ellyse Perry came up with the recovery. Raghvi took care to avoid losing her wicket and providing the opposition with an opening when Perry was playing the attacking style.

While Raghvi left for 25 runs, Perry hit her fifty and was dismissed for 57 runs, which she got on the strength of two sixes and six fours.

With two fresh batsmen in the middle, it appeared as though the GG women had recovered, but RCB quickly won the match with an even more devastating display.Richa Ghosh played a game-winning knock of 64 unbroken runs and quickly reached her fifty. She and Kanika Ahuja put together an incredible 93-run partnership (30 off 13) for the fifth wicket.

On the strength of captain Gardner’s historic unbeaten effort of 79 runs in just 37 balls and Beth Mooney’s (56), half-century, the Giants had earlier amassed a massive total of 201/5 in their 20 overs.
