Ajay Jadeja has been named as coach of the Afghanistan cricket team ahead of the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Ajay Jadeja, a former Indian cricket team batter, has been hired as the Afghanistan cricket team’s coach ahead of the Cricket World Cup 2023. From 1992 to 2000, Ajay Jadeja appeared in 15 test matches for India, amassing 576 runs at 26.18 with four half-centuries and a best of 96. During that time, he also represented India in 196 One Day Internationals (ODIs), scoring 5359 runs at 37.47 with 6 hundreds and 30 fifties. He has also played in 111 First Class and 291 List A games, scoring over 8000 runs with 31 hundreds and 88 fifties in each level.

Afghanistan is currently in India for the Cricket World Cup 2023, where they are slated to play Bangladesh in their opening game on October 7 in Dharamshala.

On Friday, the World Cup warm-up match between South Africa and Afghanistan in Thiruvananthapuram was called off without a ball being played.

Heavy rain upset both teams, who now had one more warm-up to finalise their strategies before the event begins next week.

The Proteas, whose skipper Temba Bavuma had to return home due to family obligations, will be hoping for better weather in Thiruvananthapuram before their last warm-up against New Zealand on Monday.

Bavuma is scheduled to re-join the squad for South Africa’s first tournament match against Sri Lanka on October 7 in Delhi.

On Tuesday, Afghanistan will play a last warm-up match against Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
