Akeal Hosein, the West Indies’ left-arm spinner, used a fifer to thrash Uganda by 134 runs in the T20 World Cup in Guyana.

Hosein knocked the wind out of Uganda’s batting line with career-best figures of 5/11, helping West Indies bowl out Uganda for 39 in 12 overs, the joint-lowest team total in the men’s T20 World Cup. This came after Johnson Charles (44) emerged as the leading scorer, and Andre Russell (30 not out) gave the hosts a final push to help West Indies post a difficult 173/5.

West Indies now have a solid Net Run Rate of 3.574 thanks to the win, which will aid them in their attempt to place in the top two of Group C.

When the bowlers from the West Indies were in action, the gap between the two teams was obvious.

Uganda’s top order collapsed like ninepins with half the team back in the dugout during the Powerplay, much like it had in their previous two games.

Hosein began the bowling attack and took three wickets in three overs. Roger Mukasa became his first victim when he struck off the second ball of the inning.

In the third over, Alpesh Amjani was caught leg-before-wicket by him when he returned. His third victim, an over, was Riazar Ali Shah.

Hosein took two more wickets in his final over to record his first-ever five-wicket haul and the highest statistics by a West Indian bowler at the T20 World Cup. The Ugandan batsmen were unable to read Hosein.

Earlier, after captain Rovman Powell chose to bat first, Brandon King (13) and Charles (who was dropped on 23 in the fourth over) scored quickly to give West Indies a strong start.

Alpesh Ramjani, a left-arm spinner, however, dismissed King to give Uganda their first success.

It took a few deliveries for new batsman Nicholas Pooran, 22, to settle in before he went down on one knee and lofted the ball far over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.

Before Ugandan captain Brian Masaba (2/31) ended the latter’s innings with a caught and bowled, Charles and Pooran were still hitting maximums per over.

Uganda continued to strike frequently, undermining the West Indies’ momentum, thanks to the disciplined bowling of Masaba and off-spinner Frank Nsubuga (0/29), who bowled with control and control.

53 dot balls were bowled by the Ugandans.

Soon after, Charles, who was having trouble making the big shots, was eliminated when he passed the ball directly to Ramjani.

After Powell was unable to achieve the required elevation, Shane Rutherford (22) hit a six and a boundary in the following two overs before Masaba got his corresponding in the 16th over. The big hitting Russell then hit the fence six times to assist West Indies score 49 runs in the final five overs.
