Australia skipper Alyssa Healy disclosed the reason for photographing the Indian women’s cricket team during the post-match news conference.
The Indian women’s cricket team won a historic Test match against Australia. Tempers escalated in the high-profile match, with India’s captain also involved in an on-field brawl with her counterpart Healy. However, as the game came to a close, Healy demonstrated her wonderful sporting nature by picking up a camera and photographing the Indian team on this historic moment. The Australian captain disclosed the reason for the act during the post-match press conference.
“It wasn’t my camera,” Healy explained, adding, “they were pushing the cameramen back so I thought I’d give one of them a chance to get out there nice and close but I accidentally cut out half of the Indian team.” So I don’t think they’ll use that.”
India won by 8 wickets after being set a target of 75 runs to chase in the second innings.
India didn’t take their foot off the throttle despite having already beaten England in a similar one-off Test, as Harmanpreet’s side steamrolled Australia.
On the final day, India displayed their best with both the ball and the bat to frustrate a strong Australian recovery, first provoking a collapse in the visitors’ ranks to snare the remaining five wickets for 28 and then easily knocking off a meager target of 75 to secure an eight-wicket victory.
When the goal of defeating a world-beating side was achieved, Smriti Mandhana (38 not out) and Jemimah Rodrigues (12 not out) embraced each other in a warm hug, recalling India’s hushed reaction in Australia in 2008, when MS Dhoni’s side beat the hosts and made a statement by not indulging in any passionate celebrations.
For the first time since 1995, the squad did not make a single mistake while playing multiple Tests at home.
India Women’s stayed true to their pledge of playing ‘good cricket,’ weathering all minor turbulence along the way and mostly dictating terms against fancied opponents in Australia and England.
