Rahul Dravid’s stint as India’s head coach will end after the T20 World Cup in 2024. Gautam Gambhir is reportedly leading the race to succeed him.

With over 3000 applications apparently received, the deadline for applying to be Team India’s head coach has passed, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While Gautam Gambhir, the former cricketer for India, is said to be leading the competition, other well-known candidates include Amit Shah, Sachin Tendulkar, and Narendra Modi. After the BCCI decided to make the application process for Team India’s head coach public, a large number of anonymous applicants filled it out and sent it in, using fictitious names belonging to well-known politicians and celebrities.

The board has reportedly received numerous applications in the names of former cricket players Tendulkar, Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, and Virender Sehwag, among others, according to an Indian Express article. The list also includes the names of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Imposters submitted applications to the BCCI last year as well, and the situation is the same this time around. Because it’s simple to review all of the candidates’ names on one page, the BCCI had to ask for applications using Google forms, according to a BCCI official.

The BCCI’s advertisement states that the candidate “must be willing to meet work expectations and pressures associated with handling marquee athletes” and that they will contribute to the process of “developing a world-class Indian cricket team which delivers sustained success in all conditions and formats, inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game.”Rahul Dravid, who is now the head coach of Team India, will step down following the T20 World Cup in 2024. The BCCI hopes to appoint a new head coach for the Indian squad following the major event. That being said, it is impossible to completely rule out the chance of a delay given the lack of firm information regarding Dravid’s successor thus far.
