On Thursday, senior all-rounder Andre Russell backed Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Chandrakant Pandit, whose coaching style was described as “militant” by former KKR all-rounder David Wiese. Wiese, who now plays for Namibia, stated that many foreign players on KKR’s list were disappointed by Pandit’s strict approach during last year’s IPL. However, Jamaican Russell, an important member of KKR’s core group, sounded different. “We’ve been working with him since last year.” When you initially start working with a coach, I believe you should acclimate to their philosophy. There have to be rules. We work professionally. So, we don’t complain,” Russell remarked during the pre-match press conference.

“I strive to do my best for this franchise. He’s been doing an incredible job, and we’ve had a lot of people come back,” he continued.

Pandit, known as a disciplinarian, took over as KKR coach ahead of the IPL 2022 when Brendon McCullum accepted England’s head coaching role.

“He (Pandit) is recognized in India as a militant coach. He is a rigorous, disciplinarian type of person.”When you have overseas players in a franchise cricket team who have travelled the world, sometimes they don’t need someone to come in and teach them what to wear, how to behave, and what to do all the time.

That was difficult, Wiese admitted in a recent podcast titled “Hitman for Hire: A Year in the Life of a Franchise Cricketer.”
