After falling 5-0 to China on Tuesday, India advanced to the Uber Cup quarterfinals in second place in Group A. On Court 1 in Chengdu, the youthful Indian women’s team was unable to match the hosts’ experience and skill.
On Tuesday, India rested Ashmita Chaliha and instead started with Isharani Baruah. Baruah was unable to get the tie off to a good start, losing in consecutive games to Chen Yu Fei 21-12, 21-10. Priya Konjegbam and Shruti Mishra’s first doubles partnership also fell in straight games against Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan, 21-13, 21-12.
Indian women’s team secured a quarterfinal position in the BWF Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 with a dominant 4-1 win against Singapore in their Group A match in Chengdu, China, on Sunday, April 28. The young side, which had trounced Canada 4-1 in their group opener, rallied when Yeo Jia Min overcame Ashmita Chaliha 21-15, 21-18 in the first singles. The Asian champions got a victorious start to their Uber Cup campaign owing to a spirited performance from their young squad.
