Ravichandran Ashwin, the ace Indian all-rounder, decided to end his international career, shocking the cricket fraternity and fans all over the world.
Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin’s decision to retire from international cricket surprised the whole cricket community and fans worldwide. Following the draw in the third Test match between Australia and India due to heavy weather in Brisbane, Ashwin declared his retirement on Wednesday. Anushka Sharma, a Bollywood actress and wife of star batsman Virat Kohli, also sent a heartfelt message for the 38-year-old all-rounder, who is retiring as India’s second-highest wicket-taker.
Anushka reposted the Indian cricket team’s Ashwin tribute video on her Instagram story, writing, “@rashwin99 A lasting legacy.” In the same article, she also mentioned Prithi Narayanan, Ashwin’s wife.
When Ashwin was seen on video sobbing and being embraced by Kohli during Wednesday’s third Test match against Australia, the excitement surrounding his retirement began to grow.
Following Ashwin’s retirement announcement, Kohli too wrote a heartfelt letter to his old teammate.
We’ve played together for fourteen years, so when you announced your retirement today, I started to feel a little upset and had memories of all those years. Your skill and game-winning contributions to Indian cricket are unparalleled, and you will always and forever be recognized as a legend of the game,” Kohli posted on social media. “I’ve loved every moment of the ride with you, Ash,” he continued.
“I hope your life with your family and everything else that comes your way is filled with nothing but the best.” Much love and respect to you and your loved ones. “Thanks for everything, buddy,” he said in closing.
After playing for India for 14 years, Ashwin and Kohli have experienced highs and lows together. They have contributed to both some of India’s most distressing outcomes and some of its most well-known triumphs.
