Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan lead India to a convincing first-innings victory.
Arshdeep Singh grabbed five wickets in his first ODI, while Avesh Khan took four, as South Africa collapsed to a record low total of 116 in their first ODI against India at the Wanderers on Sunday. It is South Africa’s lowest ODI score at home. Arshdeep claimed three early wickets as South Africa lost four runs in the opening ten overs.
Avesh then claimed two consecutive wickets off the first two balls of the 11th over, resulting in South Africa losing their top six in just over 10 overs. Andile Phehlukwayo provided some resistance as the collapse continued. Avesh and Arshdeep both took four wickets, with the latter eventually dismissing Phehlukwayo for 33 off 49 to complete his fifer. Avesh, on the other hand, was unable to do so, and it was Kuldeep Yadav who claimed the final South African wicket and finished the hosts’ innings.In response, India needed only 16.3 overs to reach the mark. Debutant southpaw Sai Sudharsan’s (55*) and Shreyas Iyer’s (52) blistering performances helped the visitors take a 1-0 series lead with an eight-wicket triumph.
