Aryna Sabalenka defeated Elena Rybakina in the final of the Australian Open women’s singles event at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday. The fifth seed defeated the 22nd seed 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to complete her first Grand Slam in singles. The reigning Wimbledon champion Rybakina appeared to be in command after winning the first set, but she was completely outplayed in the second set by Sabalenka, who then fought her way to victory in the decider despite wasting three championship points.
