On September 4, India (IND) will face Nepal (NEP) in the fifth match of the Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. India’s most recent match was against Pakistan, which was called off due to weather and resulted in a tie. Nepal, on the other side, had played against Pakistan in their last encounter, which they had lost.
In their previous encounter, India won the toss and decided to bat. The Indian innings got off to a good start, but it was cut short by rain. Pakistan capitalised on the interval by scalping three wickets in short succession, including Rohit, Kohli, and Iyer. Rauf quickly removed Gill, and India appeared to be in trouble, but Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya not only stabilised the ship, but also put them in command. India concluded with 266 runs on the board, however the second innings was unable to start owing to rain, hence the match ended in a tie.
Nepal had previously faced Pakistan, who had won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistan did not relent in scoring as many goals as they could against a timid Nepal. After losing their openers cheaply, Babar, Rizwan, and eventually Iftikhar smashed every bowler who came in front of them as Pakistan concluded with 342 on the board. Nepal were never in the chase as they continued losing wickets and were quickly bowled out for 104. Pakistan made a statement in the Asia Cup opener, winning by 238 runs.
