The ACC and India have agreed to use the hybrid model proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and India have agreed to the hybrid model put out by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the 2023 Asia Cup, which would see Pakistan host four matches and the other nine be held in Sri Lanka. The competition will take place from August 31 until September 17. Speaking about the significant development, which may potentially indicate the direction of the Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan is due to host, former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif launched a scathing attack on BCCI secretary Jay Shah and the PCB.Latif claims that in approving the hybrid format for the Asia Cup, both Shah and PCB had their own personal interests in mind. He believed that Pakistan wanted to save face given the difficulties, while the ACC Chairman sought kudos for his efforts to make the tournament happen despite the conditions.

“This is a classic situation; Jay Shah wanted to win; he needed credit for his job, and somewhere he wanted the medal for his underhanded methods that he used to organise an event while serving as the ACC President. Additionally, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was also in a precarious position and needed to find a method to salvage face and overcome their difficulties, according to Latif.

The former star of Pakistan also made note of the fact that awarding Sri Lanka the last nine games of the Asia Cup will significantly boost that country’s economy via income following the decline it experienced in the aftermath of political upheaval.

“In this, both India and Pakistan have had success. Sri Lanka, which will host nine of the tournament’s games, is the third benefactor. Since Afghanistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh will each get their appropriate participation fees, everyone will benefit greatly from the event. “Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are all delighted,” he said in his conclusion.

The model predicts that Pakistan will host the matches between Pakistan and Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
