At the age of 82, former Real Madrid and Netherlands coach Beenhakker passes away

After leading Ajax to the Eredivisie championship in 1979–80 and 1989–90, he helped Feyenoord win the Dutch top division once more in 1998–99.

The La Liga team announced on Thursday that Leo Beenhakker, the former coach of Real Madrid and the Netherlands, had passed away at the age of 82.The Dutchman coached the national teams of Saudi Arabia, Trinidad & Tobago, and Poland in addition to teams like Feyenoord and Ajax Amsterdam.

Before Feyenoord won the Dutch top division once more in 1998–99, he guided Ajax to the Eredivisie championship in 1979–80 and 1989–90.

But Beenhakker’s most fruitful time was at Real Madrid, where he won two Supercopa de Espana trophies, one Copa del Rey, and three La Liga titles.

“The death of Leo Beenhakker, the legendary Real Madrid coach who led the Whites from 1986 to 1989 and in 1992, is deeply saddened by Real Madrid, its president, and its board of directors,” the Spanish team stated in a statement.

To his family, clubs, and loved ones, Real Madrid would like to send their condolences and love.

“Leo Beenhakker, who was eighty-two, passed away. All Madridistas are receiving condolences from Real Madrid. May he find peace.
