The 24-year-old, who had won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, was just competing in his second event of the season when he put out a commendable performance that was just 0.07m off his personal best of 8.36m set last year.
Ma Weidong of China won the silver medal with a jump of 7.99 metres, and fellow countryman Huafeng Huang won the bronze with a leap of 7.61 metres.
