The 33-year-old gymnast Ashish Kumar won a bronze medal in the Floor Exercise on Sunday at the FIG International Pharaoh’s Cup in Cairo, marking his first appearance on a competition podium in nine years.

Ashish received a qualifying score of 12.85, however in the final, he committed a minor error on the Japanese handstand, incurring a 0.3-point penalty. His ultimate performance score was 12.80.

“It is tremendously wonderful to win at the age of 33 and after a comeback. As soon as he picked up the award, he exclaimed, “It has improved my mood.

As three of the gymnasts were recent Olympians, there was pressure and stress before the final. However, I put up a decent fight during the floor workout and was pleased with my set. I had to dig deep to keep my anxiousness under control because I had been away for a while and because of all the setbacks. The 2010 Commonwealth and Asian Games medalist stated, “I’m glad I could medal today, and if not for a small mistake it could’ve been a silver.”
