The 15-member team for the T20 World Cup 2024, which begins on June 2, has already been announced by the Indian Cricket Board’s governing body. The entire attention now is on who among the players chosen for the tournament in the United Arab Emirates and the West Indies might be India’s finest playing XI. Although Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been India’s chosen openers, Virat Kohli’s incredible form at the top of the bat for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2024 Indian Premier League may have given the team management a serious headache.

Kohli is one of the leading scorers in the 2017 IPL season, thanks to a fantastic batting performance. Kohli is in such good form that Australia great Matthew Hayden wants him to open the innings for India in the T20 World Cup, replacing Rohit Sharma. According to News 18, Hayden stated in an interview with Star Sports that Kohli and Jaiswal should be India’s opening tandem.

“If you have to make a change in that combination, I would be very happy if you would tell me if I could open with Kohli and Jaiswal, I would have said absolutely yes,” Hayden remarked.

Hayden chose the number 4 spot over Rohit, the team’s chosen opener.

I would then assign Rohit to position No. 4 and Suryakumar Yadav to position 3. And that top four is the ideal combination, in my opinion. I state that because Virat is a master of the first six. And when the power hitting starts to matter, Rohit and other excellent choices are available. Take a look at his incredible numbers at position 4. Hayden went on, “Those are superior to his opening numbers.”

India’s T20 World Cup campaign gets underway on June 5 when they take on Ireland. Following this, on June 9, the Rohit-led team will play their bitter foes, Pakistan, in a thrilling match. Next, on June 12, India will play the USA; their final group stage match is against Canada on June 15.
