Jake Fraser McGurk and Matthew Short are expected to be Australia’s travelling reserves for the T20 World Cup, which begins in the Americas on June 1.

McGurk, 22, has been in outstanding form for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. However, the top-order batsman, who has yet to make his T20I debut, was left out of the 15-man provisional squad since Australia already has an established top three in David Warner, Travis Head, and captain Mitchell Marsh.

Short, a batting all-rounder, has played nine of Australia’s previous 14 T20Is, opening in five of them, and has been named Big Bash League player of the tournament in two consecutive seasons.”Australia’s chair of selectors George Bailey had suggested that Australia would carry just one reserve to the Caribbean when the provisional squad was announced, but they are likely to add a second with the in-form Fraser-McGurk set to be named alongside Short,” according to news report.

In addition to two practice matches against Namibia and the West Indies on May 28 and 30, respectively, the Australian World Cup team will travel to the Caribbean on Thursday to begin a training camp in Trinidad.

Later, the team will be joined by Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Head, and Cameron Green, who are all guaranteed to participate in the IPL playoffs.

Since the Australian domestic summer concluded in March, players like as Josh Inglis, Matthew Wade, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, Warner, Agar, Nathan Ellis, and Marsh have not played much cricket.

The warm-up matches are restricted to players included in the 15-man team, per ICC regulations.

“Over the past two weeks, Short and Marsh, Hazlewood, Inglis, Zampa, and Agar have all trained in Brisbane. Marsh has reportedly healed from his hamstring injury, but he hasn’t started bowling yet, the source continued.

On June 5, Australia launched a campaign against Oman in Barbados.
