In the World Test Championships rankings, Australia has surpassed New Zealand to occupy the second position after winning the series 2-0.
Following Monday’s 2-0 series win over their Trans-Tasman rivals in Christchurch, Australia has surpassed New Zealand to secure second place in the World Test Championships rankings. The victory in the second Test helped Australia earn 12 points on their way to defending the World Test Championship. After 12 matches, Australia’s percentage point total increased from 59.09 to 62.50. New Zealand has decreased from 60 percentage points to 50, placing third on the list. They have played six games.
India leads the table with 68.51 points after winning six of their last nine games.
During the pivotal series victory over New Zealand, Cummins was one of the men who stood up.
The series-winning effort of wicketkeeper Carey was especially applauded by Cummins, who praised his squad for their courageous approach and said that one player’s bravery was what made the rubber stand out.
Australia defeated New Zealand in the second Test to win the series thanks to a brilliant effort from Alex Carey, Mitchell Marsh’s 80, and Pat Cummins’s last-minute heroics.
Last month in Wellington, Australia had won the first Test by a margin of 172 runs. After Ben Sears (4/90) had a double-wicket over to collect Mitchell Marsh and Starc, looking to put the Kiwis back in the game, Carey concluded with 98 not out, while Cummins (32 not out) scored the winning runs off Sears.
Australia ultimately won the match thanks to the 61-run collaboration between Cummins and Carey.
From the bowling side, you always feel like you’re in the game when the scoreboard is stationary, but when they’re just chipping away, it looks like everything is happening quite quickly.
“Being occupied all the time was the objective for today. Just keep the run rate going, and you’ll come closer bit by bit,” Cummins was cited by the ICC following the game.
According to Cummins, Australia’s victory in the hotly contested match was largely due to their commanding 92-run advantage in the first innings against New Zealand.
“The first day went by quite swiftly. The pitch then leveled out and became more difficult for the bowlers to hit after that. However, the lead after the first innings was always crucial.
“The narrative of this series, in my opinion, was that at pivotal points, one man took the field. We didn’t always play entire games, but you know, someone got up and won a match. Every day, (We) discover new strategies for victory. “This squad is pretty awesome,” he remarked.
“Amazing win, bit by bit, the boys were fantastic today.”
