Australia has formally unveiled their final 15-player Squad ahead of the much awaited ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The team, which had 18 players when it was first formed, has undertaken the anticipated pruning procedure as the tournament’s start date approaches. Notably, Aaron Hardie, Tanveer Sangha, and Nathan Ellis were not selected to move on.
After careful consideration, the Australian selection committee decided to finalise the team. In doing so, they attempted to find a balance between maturity and youthful energy. There was a lot of excellent players seeking for slots in the squad, and the competition for those spots was fierce.
Hardie, who showed off his all-round skills against South Africa; Ellis, famed for his superb death bowling; and Sangha, a promising young spinner, all missed out on the chance to represent Australia in the famous competition.
The roster that will represent Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup contains some of the country’s best cricketers, led by captain Pat Cummins.
Former captain and batting legend Steve Smith will be an important part of the team’s middle order.
Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, explosive opener Josh Inglis, and versatile Sean Abbott will round out the batting order. Adam Zampa will lead the spin department, while Cameron Green, Travis Head, and Mitch Marsh will contribute with both the bat and the ball.
Australia’s team also includes Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, who are known for their devastating hitting in the limited-overs style. The opening duo will be led by David Warner, who has been a constant performer in ODI cricket, and the bowling attack will be led by the seasoned Mitchell Starc, with Ashton Agar offering the spin option.
As part of their preparations for the ODI World Cup, Australia will play a high-stakes ODI series against India, which will begin in the coming weeks. The series against India will serve as an important warm-up before Australia opens their World Cup campaign against the same opponent on October 8 in Chennai.
