Australia achieved a historic sixth World Cup title on Sunday, ending India’s remarkable run in their domestic competition with a six-wicket win in a low-scoring finale led by Travis Head’s 137.
In the 132,000-seat Narendra Modi Stadium, a resoundingly pro-Indian audience was silenced as Head and Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out) combined for 192 runs to chase down the mark of 241.
Australia was down 47-3 after seven overs, but Head and Labuschagne didn’t give up and helped their nation take back its crown as the best in one-day international cricket. Australia had won global titles in 50-over cricket in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015.
