Australia won its 14th consecutive Women’s T20 World Cup without breaking a sweat, defeating Pakistan by 9 wickets on Friday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Australia’s strong performance was marred by injuries as they strolled to a comfortable victory and remained at the top of Group A.
After hitting 15 runs off of 15 balls, Australia lost Beth Mooney to Sadia Iqbal early. After smashing 37 off 23 deliveries, Healy carried on her assault and became the game’s leading scorer. Ashleigh Gardner and Ellyse Perry continued to play, with the former scoring the winning runs with more than nine overs remaining.Australia had given Pakistan the ball to bat in an effort to limit them to a small total early in the game. After taking two early wickets, Australia reduced Pakistan to 23/2 in the first six overs. After lofting a catch to Phoebe Litchfield off Sophie Molineux for seven, Muneeba Ali was the first to go. After being taken off guard by Megan Schutt for three, Sadaf Shamas quickly returned to the dressing room with her.Australia took two more wickets with their replacement bowlers, demonstrating their tremendous depth of bowling. To make matters worse for Pakistan, Annabel Sutherland captured Sidra Amin in front of the stumps for a score of 12.
