Maxwell was admitted to the hospital in Adelaide last week after becoming extremely inebriated while witnessing a performance by the band “Six and Out,” which used to be led by former Australian pacer Brett Lee.
Although Glenn Maxwell is an essential component of Australia’s white-ball team, head coach Andrew McDonald stated that he had to “hold up his end of the bargain” in light of his “less than ideal” Adelaide incident. Last week Maxwell was hospitalised in Adelaide after he got too drunk after attending a concert by ‘Six and Out’, the band featuring former Australian pacer Brett Lee and passed out. He wasn’t held in the hospital for very long; he was released shortly after and is currently returning to his training.
“I chatted with Glenn and we had a nice conversation about the situation yesterday. Him looking after himself needs to be a consideration moving forward,” McDonald was quoted as saying to Sydney Evening News.
“We’ve given him the opportunity to rest and rehab in that period of time and I suppose the lessons for him around that would be to take up his end of the bargain in that space and take care of himself.” Maxwell took advantage of the opportunity to attend a golf event in Adelaide before to the incident, and he was rested for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies at home next month.
“We hope to see Glenn Maxwell represent Australia in cricket for the next three to four years.” Is he going to be able to attend the 2027 World Cup in South Africa? Who knows? However, he’s an important member of our white-ball teams,” McDonald remarked.
“When he’s out there, we’re a much better team, and as a result of his awful injury, there will be some management measures put in place around him.
“But we want Glenn Maxwell to play for Australia for as long as he can.” We’ll have to do our part, and Glenn will undoubtedly have to keep his end of the bargain. This is not Maxwell’s first time in trouble. Maxwell injured his leg seriously while partying at a friend’s house in 2022, following the T20 World Cup.
Maxwell was sidelined for months by this for the Australian team. In a bizarre accident that occurred in November of last year, he also suffered bruises and head injuries after falling from the back of a golf cart.
“From his and our perspectives, it’s not ideal that the night ended the way it did, considering all the information he’s provided and the fact that he’s had a few drinks. It’s a sincere error,” McDonald remarked.
“Of course, he needs to examine what he’s doing on his end and determine whether it’s the appropriate course of action at that particular moment. Thankfully, there’s no harm out of it. He is now well.” Maxwell is yet to play limited-overs cricket for Australia following his side’s return from India last November.
Following his performance as the third-highest run scorer for Australia in the record-tying sixth edition of the ODI World Cup in India, Maxwell took part in a three-match T20I series in India and then played in the Big Bash League.
He ended as the Stars’ second-highest run scorer, and starting on February 9, the West Indies T20Is are likely to see him maintain his impressive form.
