Avani Lekhara wins Gold Medal in 10 metre Air Rifle at Paris Paralympics 2024

On Friday, August 30, 2024, Avani Lekhara, who is amazing, won the women’s 10m air rifle (SH1) event, making history as the first Indian woman to win two gold medals at the Paralympic Games. Her fellow countrywoman Mona Agarwal took home the bronze.

In the thrilling final, Avani Lekhara successfully defended her Tokyo title by winning the gold medal, and Mona Agarwal took home the bronze in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 competition. With one shot left in a thrilling finish, Avani stood in second place, 0.8 points behind her Korean rival Yunri Lee. But in the middle of intense drama at the shooting range in Paris, Avani fired a fantastic 10.5 to top the podium, while Yunri Lee earned a poor 6.8.

Mona Agarwal, who scored 228.7, took home the bronze medal.

In addition to defending her gold, Lekhara achieved a new Paralympic record of 249.7, surpassing her previous mark of 249.6 from three years prior.In her first Paralympic event, two-time World Cup gold medallist Mona Agarwal qualified with a qualifying score of 623.1, good for bronze and a solid start to India’s medal count at the Games. Shooters in the SH1 group are those who have limited or absent limb movement in their arms, legs, or lower torso.
