Just 36 hours before the Pakistan cricket team’s departure for India for the ODI World Cup, the development occurred.
Prior to the team’s departure for India for the 2-23 ODI World Cup, Babar Azam of the Pakistan cricket team received a punishment. After two T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022, Babar will be captaining Pakistan for the first time in the 50-over competition and third time in an ICC event. Babar was given a fine for breaking not one but two traffic laws in Lahore.

According to a report in Geo Super, Babar was accused with violating traffic laws on September 17 in Lahore’s Gulberg. He was fined 2000 for two offenses—driving without a licence and lane violation—and received the punishment as a result. He was initially accused of violating the lanes, but it was later found that he did not have his driver’s licence with him.

The news came barely 36 hours before Pakistan’s cricket squad flew for India for the ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5 in Ahmedabad against 2019 finalists England and New Zealand.

Earlier this week, the Pakistan team had a circumstance in which they did not acquire their visa for India trip, causing a disturbance in their World Cup plans.

Before departing for Hyderabad, where they play a World Cup warm-up game, the team was reportedly scheduled to convene in Dubai for a brief team-building exercise. However, because of the visa holdup, the crew was unable to attend the Dubai trip. On Monday night, the team members’ visa delays came to an end.

Starting on October 6, Pakistan will play Netherlands in the first match of their ODI World Cup campaign. On October 10, they will play Sri Lanka, and on October 14, they will play India in Ahmedabad in a crucial match. They will also play two exhibition games in Hyderabad before the championship begins on September 29 and October 3.
