By winning a bronze medal in the current edition of the World Wrestling Championships on Sunday, legendary wrestler Bajrang Punia became the first Indian to win four medals at the event.
In one of the bronze medal matches, Bajrang, who won a bronze in the Olympics in Tokyo last year, narrowly defeated Puerto Rican Sebastian C. Rivera 11-9 on points.
Bajrang, who fell to American John Michael Diakomihalis in the quarterfinals, advanced to the bronze medal match by defeating Armenian Vazgen Tevanyan in the repechage round, winning 7-6 on points.
Bajrang has already won three bronze medals overall. Earlier, the well-known Indian wrestler took home bronze medals in 2013, silver in 2018, and bronze in 2019.
