Bangladesh qualified for the Super Eights by defeating Nepal by a margin of 21 runs.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is delighted that his team has advanced to the Super Eights but unhappy by its batting performance thus far, said he is still trying to find out why his batters have not performed well in the 2017 T20 World Cup. Bangladesh beat Nepal by 21 runs to secure their place in the Super Eights. However, being dismissed for 106 left them in a difficult situation before their bowlers were able to complete the task.
“First and foremost, I’m thrilled that we’ll be playing in the Super Eights, and yes, our batting isn’t great. But the manner our bowlers have bowled in the last three or four matches has made me very satisfied,” Shanto remarked during the post-match media engagement here on Sunday night.
“I hope they will continue their form, and as a batting group, we need to do our proper planning so that we can come back in the next round.” Shanto stated that the team’s batting struggles have been difficult to pinpoint, but he dismissed allegations that slow deliveries were to blame. Bangladesh has exceeded the 150-run mark only once in this competition, against the Netherlands.
Shanto believes it will be a difficult task for his team to defeat their in-form opponents.
“All 20 teams are competing to win. So now we will play Super Eights. “All matches will be competitive,” he said.”There are no big teams or big names, I hope we’ll have a good Super Eights.” Bangladesh will commence their Super Eight campaign against Australia on Thursday in Antigua, followed by India two days later at the same site, and closing against Afghanistan on June 24.
