After defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets on Sunday, the Kolkata Knight Riders won their third overall title as the IPL came to an end in Chennai.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah described them as “unsung heroes” on Monday, announcing that groundsmen and curators at all ten regular IPL locations will each receive Rs 25 lakh as a mark of appreciation for creating “brilliant pitches” throughout the season. The IPL finished in Chennai on Sunday, with the Kolkata Knight Riders winning their third overall title with an eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“The unsung heroes of our successful T20 season are the incredible ground staff who worked tirelessly to provide brilliant pitches, even in difficult weather conditions,” Shah wrote in a post to X.

“As a symbol of our thanks, the groundsmen and curators at the ten normal IPL locations will earn INR 25 lakhs apiece, while those at the three additional venues will receive INR 10 lakhs each. “Thank you for your dedication and hard work!” he exclaimed.

The IPL’s 10 regular locations are Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.
This year’s additional venues included Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Dharamsala. While Guwahati was Rajasthan Royals’ second home stadium, Visakhapatnam hosted Delhi Capitals’ first leg of home matches.
Dharamshala served as Kings XI Punjab’s second base. This year’s IPL has been highlighted for its high-scoring matches, with the peak team total record broken twice. This season, the 250-run mark has been reached eight times.
Shah also congratulated KKR on their title success.

“Congratulations to the @KKRiders on winning the 2024 #TATAIPL! The team was quite consistent throughout the event, and @ShreyasIyer15 did an excellent job directing the team.

“Once again, thank you to the fans for coming out in big numbers and for making this yet another successful season!” he stated.
