There are chances that the Indian cricket team may not get a warm-up match before the World Test Championship finals on June 7. The Indian team was eager to get a tour game before the mega clash to get back into red-ball mode after the IPL 2023. However, an intra-squad match will likely be held as players arrive on different dates.
The players, including Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, and others, whose IPL 2023 campaign ended, will travel to England on Tuesday. The first batch comprises a set of net bowlers and stars that won’t be in contention in the playoffs. Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur are also expected to leave to begin preparation for the match against Australia. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Co. will arrive at a later date after their IPL campaign has ended.
With the full team only available on June 1, there might not be enough time for a practice game. The BCCI was in talks with the ECB to arrange a 3-day game for the Indian team, but there is very little possibility. Last time on Team India’s tour of England, they played a warm-up game against Leicestershire. Now, however, the Indian team management is considering an intra-squad practice match to get the players going.
