Due to an injury, Shubman Gill was unable to play on Day 4 of the second Test against England in Vizag.
Day 4 of the second Test between India and England in Vizag saw the absence of India’s opening batsman Shubman Gill, who was replaced by substitute fielder Sarfaraz Khan. Because Gill had hurt his right index finger, the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to keep him out of the field; Sarfaraz took over for Gill. Before Monday’s game began, the Indian team notified the match officials of this.
If he is unable to return to the field on Day 4, it won’t be a major problem for the contest as India has already batted through both innings. But given that the batter improved during the game, the Indian camp is probably hoping the ailment isn’t too serious.
“On Day 2, Shubman Gill injured his right index finger while fielding.” Before play on Day 4 began, the BCCI said on X that “he won’t be taking the field today.”

“Scoring runs at No. 3 was a huge accomplishment and a great feeling for me. Considering the circumstances, it felt rather nice. Yashasvi and Rohit [Sharma] bhai, who were providing us with excellent starts at the top of the order, were lost. “I believe it was crucial for us to establish a significant lead and score as many runs as we could,” Gill remarked following Sunday’s play.
The 24-year-old continued by saying he didn’t feel under pressure despite his recent poor performance in earlier Test matches.
“I believe that’s a fundamental aspect of the game. Everyone will cheer for you if you do well. You’re not doing well; everyone else is too… However, I believe that knowing what to do when you bat is the most crucial factor. I consider myself to be a percentage cricket player; I prefer to assess the scenario, play the situation appropriately, take calculated risks, and so on “.
It’s critical to be loyal to your identity and strengths. Attempting to be too aggressive or too defensive, or to be someone you’re not, might often make you stay in that shell for longer and make it harder for you to break out. And that was my pre-match mindset for this Test. I’m going to play in the same manner as I always have,” he continued.
In the 56th over of India’s second inning on Sunday, Gill attempted to play a reverse sweep shot but ultimately lost his wicket to England rookie Shoaib Bashir. The hosts Shubman Gill are hit before Day 4 of play starts in Visag.
