Zimbabwe’s top wicket-taker at the 2024 men’s U-19 World Cup, Nyamhuri, has been included in both the ODI and T20I teams.
Ben Curran, a left-hand hitter, and Newman Nyamhuri, a left-arm seamer, have been called up for the first time to the Zimbabwean team for their upcoming home T20I and ODI series against Afghanistan, which begins on December 11.
According to a release from Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), Curran, 28, was chosen after “stellar performances in domestic cricket.” Ben, the son of former Zimbabwean international and coach Kevin, was born in England and is the middle brother of England internationals Sam and Tom. He played for Northamptonshire until 2022 before relocating to Zimbabwe to play cricket, where he spent a large portion of his early years. In addition to being the top run scorer in the Pro50 List-A and first-class Logan Cup competitions this season, he just declared himself available for Zimbabwe’s selection. His sole call-up is for the ODI series. The 18-year-old fast bowler Nyamhuri took the most wickets for Zimbabwe in the 2024 men’s U-19 World Cup. He went 4 for 43 last week in one of his two List-A appearances for Southern Rocks. He plays for both the ODI and T20I teams.
Faraz Akram, Brandon Mavuta, and Clive Madande were excluded by the selection committee from their most recent match against Pakistan. Takudzwanashe Kaitano, the opener, is expected to make his T20I debut, and Victor Nyauchi returns to the ODI squad. Akram plays for the T20I team.
