Ben Stokes, the England Test captain, announced on Tuesday that he had surgery for his ailing hamstring. In the third Test match against New Zealand in Hamilton, England’s last match of 2024, the 33-year-old all-rounder tore his left hamstring. Stokes was forced to have surgery as a result, and he missed three months of work. Stokes shared an image of himself in a car with a leg brace on Instagram on Tuesday. His caption read, “Bionic Man for a while.” When Stokes tore the same hamstring during the Hundred in August, he missed four straight Test matches.Against New Zealand he returned as a full-fledged all-rounder.
However, Stokes pulled up in Hamilton in the middle of an over, departed the field, and did not play any more due to the added exertion from bowling.
Prior to a hectic home summer that includes a five-match series against India, Stokes has time to fully recover given he was previously left out of England’s squad for the one-day international Champions Trophy next month, which does not include any Test matches until May.
