In advance of the WBBL 2024–25, which is scheduled to start on October 27, Sydney Thunder has signed Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu for the next three seasons through a pre-draft agreement. Athapaththu, an undrafted player from the previous season, filled the fourth foreign spot on the Thunder squad.
