Sybrand Engelbrecht announced his retirement from international cricket shortly after the Netherlands’ campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup ended with an 83-run loss to Sri Lanka, according to a statement from the Royal Dutch Cricket Association. Engelbrecht, who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1988, made his international debut for the Netherlands in 2023, aged 35. He did play for South Africa in the 2008 Men’s U19 World Cup, where he made a brilliant catch to dismiss a young Virat Kohli in Jonty Rhodes style.
