Brian Lara, a former cricketer for the West Indies, praised MI batsman Suryakumar Yadav for his outstanding batting after coming off injury layoff.
In the IPL 2024 “El Clasico,” between the fierce rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), on Sunday night, legendary West Indies cricketer Brian Lara praised MI batsman Suryakumar Yadav for his outstanding showing after returning from an injury layoff. As he discussed his thoughts on the next match between Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja of CSK. Although he would usually rely on slower balls, Lara first praised the Chennai spinner for his extraordinary abilities.
The former West Indies cricketer added, “Yeah, it’s a battle, but you know, okay, those are some stats that you pull out,” in an interview with Star Sports Cricket Live. Even though he might have failed at certain points, this guy is nonetheless in excellent shape. Furthermore, if he decides to give in to it and declare, “Okay, I’ll face you again later,” I can take on other guys. He is also capable of doing that.”
“However, I think that he will drop the slower balls in the majority of battles due to his confidence, regardless of whether he uses left arm pace or left arm spin. Furthermore, it’s never easy to put pace on the ball when you have to. You enjoy a ball’s pace when it allows you to cut it in several directions,” he remarked.
The West Indian also highlighted the expectation of an interesting fight from Suryakumar, suggesting that it would be one to keep an eye on.
Suryakumar returned to the Mumbai team for the game against Delhi Capitals, however he was out for a duck. Suryakumar missed the first three games for MI due to an ankle ailment and sports hernia surgery, which resulted in an extended layoff.
But in the subsequent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the batsman was back to his best, smashing a 19-ball 52 to tie the MI record for the second-fastest fifty.
When the 33-year-old hitter returned from a long injury absence, Lara was amazed by his performance and said he had never seen a player so close to recovery from an injury.”However, Surya Kumar Yadav’s performance a few days ago is simply amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player who has recently recovered from an injury, just finished a first-half attack, or at the very least, a zero in the previous game, make shots like that. Outstanding. And I believe Surya Kumar Yadav would win any battle,” Lara continued.
