Nishant suffered a 4-1 loss to Marco Verde of Mexico in the quarterfinals. In the first two rounds, Nishant appeared to be more in control from a visual standpoint.

Actor Randeep Hooda and veteran boxer Vijender Singh questioned the bout’s scoring system after India’s Nishant Dev was knocked out of the current Olympics in Paris. Nishant was defeated 4-1 by Marco Verde of Mexico in the quarterfinal match. Nishant appeared more in control of the opening two rounds, at least to the unaided eye. The twenty-three-year-old prevailed in the opening frame. However, the judges deemed Verde the winner of the next two rounds. The bronze medallist from the 2008 Olympics questioned the match’s scoring method while applauding Nishant for his courageous performance.

“I don’t know what’s the scoring system, but I think very close fight..he played so well..koi na bhai #NishantDev,” Vijender posted on X.

The actor Randeep Hooda commented on X, “Nishant had won it,” expressing his belief that Nishant was wrongfully denied an Olympic gold after his exit. How is this being scored? lost the medal but gained hearts instead. Sadness! Many more chores to complete!”
Verde led the first round and was declared the winner by the panel of five judges in the following two rounds.
In the second round, Nishant maintained his aggression and jabbed straight, leaving Verde unable to cover. Verde put pressure on Nishant, and the fixture began to turn around. Verde prevailed 3-2 in a split decision that concluded the second round.

In the third round, Nishant received nine points while Verde received five from each judge.

Nishant overcame Ecuador’s Jose Rodriguez in a nerve-racking match to get to the final eight.

By securing a split decision victory in the match, he qualified for the men’s 71 kg quarterfinals.

Amit Panghal, Nishant’s countryman, too failed to advance past the round of 16 in the men’s 51 kg division, sending him out of the Olympics in Paris.

Patrick Chinyemba of Zambia defeated Amit 1-4. Amit was very aggressive in the first few rounds, and the two fighters exchanged blows. However, judges made all of the decisions in favor of the Zambian fighter in the third round, and he prevailed by split decision of 1-4.
