Vinesh Phogat was seen unconscious on a chair in a viral video posted on social media.
Vinesh Phogat, an Indian wrestler, was disqualified from the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics 2024 because she was 100gms overweight. The 29-year-old wrestler later filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) to be considered for a joint silver medal. However, her appeal was also denied, and she was forced to return home without a medal. On a lighter note, Vinesh’s family and supporters greeted her warmly when she returned to her hometown of Haryana.
Vinesh’s fans and members of the ‘khap’ panchayats presented her with a gold award upon her arrival in her hometown of Balali, Haryana. However, alarming news has surfaced that the famed wrestler felt unwell and fainted at the felicitation ceremony.
After a long travel from Paris, Vinesh attended the road show and the felicitation event. So, Vinesh’s poor health could be attributed to his long travel and demanding schedule.
Her disqualification sparked outrage in India and the wrestling community.
The two-time World Championship medalist wished that someone from Balali might surpass her wrestling accomplishments.
“It would be unfortunate if no wrestler arose from this village. With our achievements, we have paved the road and provided hope. I ask that you all help the women in our village. “If they have to replace us in the future, they will need your support, hope, and trust,” Vinesh stated.
“They are capable of great accomplishments. All they need is your help. I shall be eternally grateful to this country and hamlet for showing me such love and respect.
