In the current Cricket World Cup, nearly every Indian player has been in outstanding form; yet, Yuvraj Singh believes that one player should be chosen Player of the Tournament.
Mohammed Shami, an experienced pacer from India, has been the team’s go-to bowler in the Cricket World Cup 2023. He has taken 23 wickets at an economy rate of 5.01 across six matches, making him the leading wicket-taker. Three five-wicket hauls and a four-for have been among his heroics. In Tuesday’s Mumbai semifinal matchup with New Zealand, Shami claimed seven wickets. In India’s first four matches in the competition, the right-arm pacer was not included in the starting XI. However, once all-rounder Hardik Pandya suffered an untimely injury, the pace sensation never looked back.
“India’s bench often included match-winning players. Though everyone was anxious to watch how Shami would perform, and his ability to light the stage on fire, I won’t argue that Hardik’s injury was a blessing in disguise. Mohammed Shami is deserving of the Player of the Tournament title, in my opinion,” Yuvraj said to news sources.
In2003, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid just missed out on winning the Cricket World Cup as a player. Australia defeated India in the summit match.
Rohit Sharma is one of the players who has previously come quite close to winning the championship. He did not make the squad that won the 2011 World Cup, but he did have an opportunity to play in the next two tournaments, however both times India was knocked out in the semi-finals.
“A chance exists for Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to win their first World Cup medal. They merit it. We didn’t know the combination, therefore we were wondering where the Indian ODI team was before the Asia Cup. But Yuvraj continued, “Iyer, Rahul, and Bumrah’s return definitely made a difference.
