The Chennai Super Kings are expected to be led by MS Dhoni in the IPL 2024 season, but little is known about the seasons after that.
The huge concern about MS Dhoni’s succession remains as Chennai Super Kings prepare for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Ravindra Jadeja was tested as CSK’s captain in 2022, but the approach failed so badly that Dhoni had to be reinstalled as the franchise’s captain in the middle of the season. While Jadeja’s return as team leader is improbable, CSK is still looking for a new captain. When asked about MS Dhoni’s’succession plan’ in the IPL 2024 auction, head coach Stephen Fleming responded in an unusual way.
During a press conference at the auction in Dubai, Fleming stated that CSK has had succession plans in place for Dhoni for the past ten years, but he continues to lead the squad with the same zeal as before.
“We’ve had MS succession plans in place for about ten years. It’s going to be a talking point, but he’s as engaged and enthusiastic as I’ve seen him in a long time. “We’ll keep going as long as that passion for the team and franchise exists,” Fleming responded to the inquiry.
Fleming was questioned if CSK sees New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell as a successor for Ben Stokes after CSK signed him in the auction. Fleming responded candidly, pointing out that Stokes only played one game for CSK last season and is thus not tough to replace.
“He only played one game, so not huge shoes.” Daryl is a different style of player, but his recent performances have justified this type of price. He is an unfashionable player who frequently slips under the radar. With his ability to bowl spin, he is both competitive and useful.We can cast him in Chepauk. He fits in nicely and is a terrific buy for us, just like his performances,” he remarked.
