Dasun Shanka has been chosen as the Gujarat Titans’ replacement for injured player Kane Williamson in the Indian Premier League season 2023. On March 31, 2023, William sustained an on-field injury to his right leg while attempting a catch at the boundary in the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Shanka is the Sri Lankan cricket team’s white-ball skipper and an explosive middle-order batsman who also bowls right-arm seam. Shanka was on fire in India’s latest T20 international, scoring 124 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 187 and an average of 62.
He was also the top run-scorer for the Sri Lanka cricket team in the following ODI series, scoring 121 runs in three innings. Shankar was signed by Gujarat Titans for his base fee of Rs 50 lakh, and this will be his first season in the IPL.
