David Warner made history by becoming Australia’s best run scorer in the Twenty20 International format, overtaking previous captain Aaron Finch.
By surpassing former captain Aaron Finch to become Australia’s top run scorer in the Twenty20 International format, David Warner made history. Warner didn’t take the high-risk, high-reward route and took his time getting used to the challenging surface during Australia’s opening Twenty20 World Cup match against Oman. Warner strode away with a 56(51) total, gleaming with six boundaries and one maximum. With 3,155 runs scored in 104 matches, he holds the record for most runs scored in the shortest format of cricket.
He overtook Finch’s record of 3,120, which he achieved in 103 games with a strike rate of 142.53 and an average of 34.28.
After taking some time to extend his arms, the seasoned opening batsman successfully neutralized Oman’s spinning menace.
Coming down the track, he raised his bat for the 27th T20I fifty, opening his arms and sending the ball onto the stands.
After he mistimed his shot to the fielder at long off, he was eventually removed by Oman right-arm pacer Kaleemullah.
Chris Gayle, the previous hard-hitting opener for the West Indies, was surpassed by him when he reached fifty. In Twenty20 cricket, Warner has amassed 111 fifty-score runs, compared to Gayle’s 110.
Warner’s record is closest to being surpassed by India’s veteran batsman Virat Kohli, who has amassed 105 fifties.
He partnered with Marcus Stoinis for 102 runs during his time on the field, which enabled Australia to post a 164/5 total.
With a score of 67 from just 36 deliveries, Stoinis delivered another easy power-hitting display and won the match. There were two fours and an astounding six sixes in his impactful knock.
The Baggy Greens, who were struggling at 50/3 in the ninth over, were able to swiftly gain momentum in their innings thanks to the 34-year-old.
After his knock, Stoinis became just the eighth batter in Australia’s T20I history to score more than 100 runs in a match.
In 60 games, the seasoned all-rounder has amassed 1,007 runs at an average of 31.46 and a strike rate of 147.22.
