David Warner has appeared in eight BBL games for the Thunder over the past two seasons.

David Warner, a former Australian cricketer, has signed a new two-year contract with the Sydney Thunder, ensuring that he will be available for the whole BBL season. Steve Smith also inked a new three-year contract to remain with the Sydney Sixers.

Ahead of the 2018 season of the premier tournament, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey have re-signed with the Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers, respectively. It is worth mentioning that Australia’s Test players will be available between the conclusion of the Sydney Test against India and the team’s departure for the Sri Lanka tour on January 21, 2025, the first day of the BBL knockout stages.

Warner played eight games for Thunder over the last two BBL seasons. After announcing his retirement from international cricket, the 37-year-old will have a clean schedule for the BBL and is likely to be available throughout the competition.

“Davey is popular wherever he plays, right around the world, particularly in India, and I know the South Asian communities in Sydney’s west will get right behind him at Thunder,” Trent Copeland, Thunder general manager, told news sources.

“In Davey we get a world-class talent with almost 20 years of T20 experience and now that he has retired from international cricket, we can count on his full focus and commitment for the entire tournament, including the finals,” said Graham.

Furthermore, Steve Smith will be eligible in the tournament for four Sixers games, including a game against the Sydney Thunder, where he might face David Warner. If Smith decides to retire from international cricket soon, he may play a full season in the BBL; however, he has confessed that he has no imminent plans.
