Even though Keshav Maharaj and Wiaan Mulder are in varying phases of their injuries, they have been added to South Africa’s Test squad for the forthcoming series against Pakistan, which begins in Centurion on December 26. While warming up for the first ODI against Pakistan at Boland Park in Paarl on Tuesday, Maharaj suffered a severe groin strain. According to Cricket South Africa (CSA), Maharaj will have a scan on Wednesday to assess the extent of the injury. Mulder was included after completing the last stage of his recuperation from a fractured right middle finger that prevented him from playing in the second Test match against Sri Lanka. According to CSA, batsman Matthew Breetzke will be dropped from the team if Mulder is chosen for the opening Test. The 30-year-old seamer Corbin Bosch has been called up to the Test team for the first time. With an overall total of 72 wickets at an average of 36.75 and an economy rate of 3.24 over 34 games, Bosch has been playing excellent first-class cricket.

Bosch was a member of the SA Invitational XI team that recently defeated the England Lions in Cape Town, winning 1–21.
