The players of the Kolkata Knight Riders had a terrifying experience as their aircraft from Lucknow to Kolkata was repeatedly rerouted due to inclement weather, forcing them to spend the night in Varanasi.
Kolkata Knight Riders were forced to spend the night in Varanasi after their aircraft from Lucknow to Kolkata was diverted many times due to poor weather. Following their stunning 98-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, the Shreyas Iyer-led team left for Kolkata at 5:45pm on Monday evening. The squad was supposed to arrive around 7.25pm. However, due to inclement weather, the charter flight had to be diverted to Guwahati first, followed by Varanasi.
At 8.46pm, the KKR media team issued an update, stating that “due to inclement weather over Kolkata, the KKR charter flight has been diverted to Guwahati.” We just landed here.” Another email at 9.43pm stated, “We’ve received approval to travel back to Kolkata from Guwahati. The estimated time of arrival is 11 p.m.” However, the nightmare for the players and support crew did not end there, as numerous attempts to land the plane failed, prompting officials to divert it mid-air to Varanasi.
“Flight took departure from Guwahati to Kolkata and was scheduled to land at 11 p.m. Despite repeated efforts, we were unable to land again owing to terrible weather. The aircraft has been diverted in mid-air to Varanasi. “Just landed here,” read an update at 1:15 a.m.
After spending the night in Varanasi, the KKR team is scheduled to depart for Kolkata this afternoon.
“The group would be spending the night at a hotel in Varanasi. Tuesday, May 7th, afternoon return trip to Kolkata is scheduled, according to the KKR media team’s final report at 3:00 am.
Thankfully, KKR’s next match is on May 11 at Edens Garden against the Mumbai Indians. The final two league games for the two-time past winners are against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 13 and the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on May 19.
