Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has returned to India from Sri Lanka and will miss India’s match against Nepal on Monday.
Bumrah has notified the team’s management and the Indian board that he want to spend time with his pregnant wife.
The BCCI granted the speedster’s plea, and Bumrah returned to Mumbai this afternoon. He will join the team before the Super 4 stage.
Bumrah returned to international cricket a month ago after a lengthy injury layoff.
The Indian squad will play its Super 4 game in Lanka after a few days off, and Bumrah has notified the BCCI that he will return as soon as possible.
Bumrah wore the Indian jersey for the first time since being ruled out of the T20 World Cup last year due to a persistent back problem during India’s tour of Ireland last month. As a result of the injury, he missed numerous bilateral series, the IPL 2023, and the World Test Championship final for India earlier this summer, and his return in time for the World Cup has been questioned. Those doubts were ignored during the Ireland series, in which the pacer led India to a 2-0 victory and finished as the leading wicket taker with four scalps.”Jasprit is someone we’ve missed a lot; he hasn’t played many games in the last two years,” head coach Rahul Dravid remarked prior of the Asia Cup. “We’ll ease him in gradually.” It was great for him to get those overs during his tour of Ireland. We have a month before the World Cup to prepare him.Even though Bumrah didn’t get to bowl a single delivery on Saturday since rain forced India’s game against Pakistan to be called off after the men in blue recorded 266 in the first innings, his 14-ball-16 was one of the highlights against a formidable Pakistan pace attack.India plays Nepal in their final group stage encounter, and the victor will join Pakistan in the Super 4 from Group A.
