For the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, an Indian athlete reportedly carried 27 bags totaling more than 250 kilograms. The baggage was covered by the BCCI.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed an incredible piece of information from India’s tour of Australia. The new regulations also include a weight limit on the amount of luggage that players are permitted to bring on international assignments. The board allegedly had to implement the regulation in order to stop similar problems from happening in the future. In accordance with the new regulation, the BCCI has made it clear that it will only pay for luggage weighing up to 150 kilograms.
The shocking disclosures came from a piece in Dainik Jagran that showed how certain players have been abusing the board’s laxity. During the tour in Australia, a player allegedly had the board handle and cover the cost of almost 27 bags. In addition to the athlete, his family and personal crew also owned the bags. According to the report, the board was required to pay for the bags’ weight exceeding 250 kg. In addition to other belongings of the player’s family and personal crew, the bags contained a total of 17 bats. According to the BCCI guideline, a player’s personal staff and family members’ bags must be transported separately. The athlete, however, had the BCCI handle all of that as part of his baggage.
According to the story, the player in question was accompanied by his family members throughout the entire journey. In the process, the BCCI had to pay for the transportation of the player’s and his family members’ belongings from India to Australia and back, as well as between cities during the series in Australia. Although the precise amount of money the board spent on this process is unknown, it is anticipated to be in lakhs.
Other team members were negatively impacted by this system, leading others to adopt a similar strategy. As a result, the BCCI was forced to take action and establish regulations. In Indian cricket, a lot has changed since the Australia tour. In order to attend games, the players must now ride the team bus. Regarding team travel, no player is permitted to make personal travel arrangements.
As the squad gets ready to take off for the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, the BCCI has also issued a stringent directive that prohibits the players’ families from traveling with them. According to a PTI story, a senior player even asked for clarification on the issue because he wanted to take his wife to Dubai for the upcoming series.
It is reported that the player was told by the board that everyone is subject to the same rules.
