Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney now have an opportunity to compete for the position of England’s record goal scorer’s backup at the Euros, although Harry Kane’s absence is disappointing.
Harry Kane, the captain of England, is “extremely doubtful” to play against Belgium next week and will miss Saturday’s friendly against Brazil. Kane will not be risked for Bayern Munich’s match against Brazil at Wembley after sustaining an ankle injury during their 5-2 victory over Darmstadt last weekend. The former Tottenham striker might also be unable to play in Tuesday’s Wembley friendly against Belgium. The game is the last one before England manager Gareth Southgate announces his squad for Euro 2024, but Kane isn’t concerned about his seat on the plane to Germany in June.
