Head coach Matthew Mott has his sights set on England’s next match against archrivals Australia after their opening ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match ended in a no-result.
The first innings of England’s match versus Scotland in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 washed out after ten overs.
Although they had to deal with sharing points with Scotland, England would have loved a flawless start to their competition. With two points from their Super Over heist against Oman, Namibia leads the group, with England and Scotland tied for second.
This increases the significance of their matchup with longtime foe Australia, which takes place in Barbados on June 8 and white-ball head coach Matthew Mott anticipates an exciting contest.
Following their match against Scotland, Mott told the press, “I definitely think Australia is a big game but it’s our next game [after the no result] and that’s why it’s a big game and then depending on how we go there, we reset and go again.”
“If the weather permits, I’m sure it will be an amazing match between two excellent teams.”
With 11 victories and 10 losses in 23 games, the reigning ICC Men’s T20 World Champions and Australia are virtually tied in terms of format.
Mott is optimistic that his squad can defeat the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup winners, whom they defeated in the 2010 Men’s T20 World Cup Final, with a great performance.
The 50-year-old anticipated that England will stand up well against Australia because he had great faith in his express pacers and a deep and dynamic batting order.
Indeed, that is what we intend to do—make a statement. I believe we demonstrated that [also against Scotland].
“I find it fascinating that Mark Wood is steaming in their first over, you know. It’s been a long since we’ve been able to have him and Jofra [Archer] together.
“There, we were definitely eager to create an impression. However, I believe that we have solid options nearby and we bat deep as well.
We have a great record against Australia, so we know that the next game will be huge, regardless of the outcome of this one. We are eagerly anticipating it.”
