When asked to choose between himself and Gill for the squad, Dhawan’s explosive response stunned everyone.
Shikhar Dhwan is well-known for his ICC tournament achievements as a former Team India batsman. However, he has been losing his spot in the team over the last year and a half due to his poor performance and the rise of young talent. He last appeared for Team India in December 2022. When asked whether he’ll pick himself or Gill for the team, his answer astounds everyone.
In an interview with Aaj Tak, Dhawan was asked who he would choose as team selector or skipper of the team between him and Gill if given the opportunity. Everyone was taken aback by his mouth-closed response to the reporter. “I feel that way,” he said. Shubman is currently on the field. He seemed to be playing two forms and doing well in tests and T20s. He was competing in more international contests than I was.” After this reporter asked him if he would select himself over Gill, he responded with a simple “Yes,” which shocked even the journalist.
Gill is in incredible form in ODI cricket, having amassed around 624 runs in only nine innings at 78 in 2023, including three centuries and one half century.
