In the past, India seamer Mohammed Shami was accused of’match-fixing’ by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan, prompting an investigation by the BCCI ACU.
Mohammed Shami, the Indian pacer, has firmly established himself as one of the best of his generation. While Shami is currently an asset to the Indian team, his path to this point has not been easy. While Shami was always regarded as an incredibly talented seamer on the professional level, he had plenty of personal issues to deal with. Following the breakdown of Shami’s relationship with his estranged wife Hasin Jahan, a number of serious allegations were levelled against him. His wife even accused the pacer of’match-fixing,’ prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit to launch an investigation.
Former India pacer Ishant Sharma has spoken out about the match-fixing allegations levelled against Shami.
“I spoke with him, and he shared a lot about the subject. Whatever had happened, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) had approached us all and asked if Shami was capable of match-fixing. Just as police officers file a complaint… Everything was asked of me, and everything was written down. ‘I don’t know his personal matters, but I’m 100 percent sure he can’t do that because I know him that well,’ I told them. When he heard me say those words, he realised what I thought of him, and our bond grew stronger,” Ishant explained.
The difficulties Shami faced in his personal life could have caused him to take a completely different path in his professional career, but the pacer rebuilt himself and worked harder to become the superstar he is today.
As the BCCI investigation concluded, Shami was given the all-clear by the board.
