In Australia’s white-ball internationals, Adam Zampa has been a highly productive player.
Adam Zampa, who made his limited-overs cricket debut for Australia in 2016, has amassed a record of 274 wickets at an average of 25.58, making him one of the country’s most successful bowlers. In Australia’s latest white-ball world cup victories, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 (13 wickets at 12.07) and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 (23 wickets at 22.39), Zampa was a key player.Even after this remarkable run, Zampa has been a white-ball specialist thus far; in Tests, Australia has favored the abilities of Mitchell Swepson, Ashton Agar, Todd Murphy, and Matthew Kuhnemann to support Nathan Lyon.
Zampa’s chances are still open, albeit this. Even with the latest Border-Gavaskar Trophy just a few months away, the spinner is still hoping to be selected for the Test team.
“In all honesty, I believe I have a chance to play Test cricket still. Right now, with the way I bowl and who I am as a bowler, I think I would be OK and doing really well if I were playing a lot of shield cricket. That is suggested by the few games I have played in the last few years, Zampa said on the Final Word podcast.
Zampa’s average, which is over 47, and his sparse first-class play—he has only played red-ball cricket twice since 2019—could be obstacles on his path.
The 32-year-old, nevertheless, was unfazed by this and continued to have faith in his bowling to do well in the game’s longest format.
“People will point out that even if I am selected for the next subcontinent trips, his record is a 46 average with the ball. I’m sure people will think it’s not good enough.
However, I’ll know that everything will be alright if I get selected based on how I feel about my bowling.
Zampa is a hot commodity in the T20 franchise market, but one thing that does work in his favour is his dedication to Australian international cricket.
“In the long run, I’m not interested in franchises. For as long as I can, I want to play for Australia because I like the sense of accomplishment that comes with being a member of that squad.Zampa signed a two-year contract with Cricket Australia, possibly as a result of this.
“I’m fortunate enough to have committed to a two-year contract with Australia, and I want to play every minute for my country. It implied that I would have to make some choices regarding franchise cricket.
